White Shadow - 9 Years

Description

If I've got this right, as of my posting this today it will have been 9 years and 3 months since I first drew Felicia Nightshade aka White Shadow.

9 years, huh? That's a fair amount of time. (Maybe one day we'll actually see the comic that'll go with this all :p)

I thought I celebrate the 9 years by drawing all of her outfits as I'd draw them today :) It's kinda cool so see how my drawing style and ability have changed over the years, as well as how Felicia's outfit has changed. Lemme talk about each for a bit :)

OUTFIT 1 - first appearance: APRIL 2002
A typical jewel thief, though the cuffs around the wrists, ankles and neck made it a bit different. Her hair was also completely covered and tucked into her cap to keep it out of the way.
I didn't really draw this version of the suit very much outside of the unfinished short comic she originated from.

OUTFIT 2 - first appearance: JANUARY 2003
Jacket with vest top underneath, leggings, the addition of the arm band with smoke pellets, and an overall more purple colour theme.
Her hair was allowed to hang out under the cap and remain this way for the next 6 or so years. This one probably had the most actual artwork drawn for it.

OUTFIT 3 - first appearance: NOVEMBER 2005
A one-piece bodysuit with a stronger hue of purple. I didn't really draw it much aside from a few images.
I believe it was around this time that I established that the White Shadow story would be set in the near future (say, around 2050) so it was here that she became a tech-thief.

OUTFIT 4 - first appearance: JUNE 2006
This was the longest-lived outfit so far, and still a favourite of mine.
The one-piece outfit now had more of a unique design to it, and her utility belt had been redesigned.
Her goggles also got their first major redesign, and the cloth cuffs that had been present in the previous three designs had been replaced with more practical composite cuffs.
The lights on the outfit would probably make it harder to hide, though it's not like Sam Fisher ever had any complaints :)

OUTFIT 5 - first appearance: MARCH 2009
Probably the shortest-lived outfit since I never truly drew any artwork with it. It's a shame, but I was never fully happy with the design for her purposes. I think I can still use it as an alternate outfit for another circumstance though, so it's not completely written off yet. Her hair was finally tied back into a ponytail - much more practical.

OUTFIT 6 - first appearance: JANUARY 2010
The current design. I established a few design themes here with the blocks along the arms and legs (clearer in other artwork, admittedly), and her goggles finally changed to a blue shade to tie in with it.
The purples are more muted for added stealth, and the belt was again redesigned for practicality as well as design.
The cuffs are now arm and shin guards with their own built-in tech such as data storage, hacking, and a haptic surface to bring up the interfaces for them.

It's a bit strange looking back on how things have changed over the years. My art's improved, as has my sense of design, and I'm gradually building up the world that surrounds Felicia. It makes it all quite exciting to me to see how things will go in the future.
