Disappointed (short story) by funkyalien Disappointed (short story) by funkyalien
Product of Friday night's stream, and the accompanying piece to this short story writen by Mark Engels :iconmjengels:.
White Shadow 'Disappointed' Short StoryShe drew in her breath then exhaled slowly.  Her finely tuned senses expanded out beyond her crouching body, beyond where her opponent stood, beyond the alleyway where they faced one another.  Each of her five senses complimented the other, affording her everything she needed to properly assess her situation and cipher the ideal trajectory with which to strike.  With her ears cocked forward, she could clearly make out her opponent's fluttering heartbeat.  Her muzzle twitched as the stink of his fear filled her nostrils.  She licked her lips as she tasted her own saliva, flowing eagerly in anticipation of her imminent victory.  Her hand tingle

Mark had been inspired to write it after seeing the original sketch from 2007 ( [link] ), so wrote up a short story for the scene, with me guiding the process. I then felt that I should do some cover artwork for it, and doing an up-to-date version of the older sketch just made sense.

Thanks again to Mark for taking the time to write this! You should all go read it. :)

Ended up here while reading the short story. I like both versions of this piece. The characters are acting naturally, like in a real slice of life, and the way Tabby is rubbing her feet is very cute.

Your adjustment of the picture is really well done. It is hard when using back-lighting to get the light and shadow to fall the right way. You also managed to make the lighting look soft, a trick I've never mastered! Kudos to you and kudos to Mark for writing a lovely short story to go with it. Congrats.

Thanks very much!
I've come to really like working with back-lit images. Figuring out how the shadows should look is pretty interesting to me, and it makes a nice effect when done right.

Turned out fantastic, Funky. Thanks very much for making such an excellent updated artwork for the "Disappointed" theme, and thanks for letting me play in your sandbox! You were very supportive of my idea to write the story and especially helpful helping review my early drafts to help me better understand these two great characters. Do look indeed forward to our future collaboration!

And thanks to you for taking the time to write it. Like I may have mentioned before; there was little chance of me writing up the story myself any time soon, so it's nice to see that you got enough info from my comments to make a start on it. It's been fun working on this. :)

Well done! As someone not familiar with the characters (well, not *completely*, nothing past some of Funky's art), it's good because the background's not really *needed* to make the story; there's just enough to give the reader a 'good idea' of it to put it all into perspective.

Thanks, Coyttl! I'm working on adding more background work to my art, even if it's something fairly simple like this.
